Located on the northern coastline of Tenerife, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, is a unique natural swimming spot known as El Caleton de Garachico. The swimming pools are surrounded by lava from the Trevejo Volcano which last erupted over 300 years ago. The area is busy year round, but as you can imagine, has the biggest crowds during the warm summer months. Don't miss the nearby San Miguel Castle and, if your schedule allows, grab a bite to eat (or snack) at one of the nearby restaurants.

So glad that we were patient and finally found a parking place so that we could explore El Caletón de Garachico. We didn't get in the water, but the natural swimming pools surrounded by lava are on my list for our next visit to the Canary Island of Tenerife!
