Grand Cayman | George Town | Cayman Islands | Balboa Beach | Cruise Ship Tenders | Shipwreck Dive Sites
Balboa Beach is very near the dock where cruise ship tender boats bring passengers to shore. The sign
standing on the small downtown waterfront property is often used as a frame for photographing cruise
ships. What many passengers don't know is that the beach is named for a shipwreck located in the
harbor waters. Because of cruise ship traffic, most cruisers never have a chance to dive to the Balboa as
the waters are too busy during daytime hours.

Do you enjoy tender ports?
I used to think it was really fun to get on a tender boat to get to shore. After 35+ cruises, I now often
see it as a time constraint ... I sometimes can't get to shore as quickly as I would like to explore the port
city! Many of the Caribbean cruises that we have taken have spent a port day in George Town, Grand
Cayman. It's a very popular cruise ship port and often has multiple cruise ships all tendering their
passengers to shore. (This photo was taken in 2019 with the Balboa Beach sign framing our cruise ship,
Celebrity Reflection.)
