Just over 30 miles north of Aswan is the city of Kom Ombo, home of the Kom Ombo Temple. The temple was dedicated to both the God of Crocodiles and the God of Falcons. Much of the temple was destroyed due to both natural and environmental causes, but in the late 19th century an archaeologist restored a part of it. Because the temple was thought to possess the power of healing, pilgrimages were made to Kom Ombo Temple.

Between Edfu and Aswan on the Nile River, we made a stop at Kom Ombo Temple, sometimes referred to as the crocodile temple.
Fun fact: In years gone by, crocodiles lived in and around the temple. Hundreds of crocodile mummies were found at the temple and are now on display in the Crocodile Museum located on the temple grounds.
