Exploring the Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard

The TCL Chinese Theatre, originally Grauman's Chinese Theatre, opened in Hollywood in 1927. That same year, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks left their print in the cement in front of the theatre. Since then, hundreds more of Hollywood's greats have been recognized in a ceremony during which they leave their hand prints, footprints and/or signatures. It is fun for any fan of great movies to explore these modern day encryptions from the last century.

Did you know that today's TCL Chinese Theatre has had multiple names?

The theatre's original name, "Grauman's Chinese Theatre", lasted for over 45 years. In 1973, it was renamed "Mann's Chinese Theatre". The name lasted for almost 30 years before the theatre went back to its original name. Then, in 2013, naming rights were purchased by TCL Corporation, hence today's name!

Although we have been several times through the years, it is always a fun place to visit. Like so many others, we usually spend some of our time searching the signatures, hand prints, footprints and even sayings found in the cement tiles in front of the theatre.

Which of the Hollywood greats is your favorite?
