Honoring Military Nurses at Veteran's Memorial Park

A bronze statue that honors military nurses was unveiled in Cedar Park's Veterans Memorial Park just in time for Veteran's Day 2020. The life-size statue features three military nurses - each from a different era. Representing military nurses from World War I, World War II and today, the 3 nurses join several other statues along the Pathway of Heroes. In honor of Veteran's Day, all statues along the walk are lit each evening for a week in the patriotic colors of red, white and blue.

Did your home city do anything special for Veteran's Day?

Although there was no large celebration this year, our home town of Cedar Park, Texas still paid tribute to Veterans. In addition to the recent unveiling of the Military Nurses statue, each of the of the statues along the Pathway of Heroes are lit up in red, white or blue every evening this week. We decided that Veteran's Day was the perfect day for us to see the most recent additions to the park.

Since our previous visit in early 2016, a lot has changed! While the Pathway of Heroes did have brick pavers and bronze leaves engraved with the names and service dates of soldiers, there were no sculptures lining the path. Today, there are life-size statues representing branches of the Armed Forces serving during World Wars I and II and the Vietnam, Korean and Iraq / Afghanistan Wars.

Also new was a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument dedicated in September of 2017. The four panels of the monument represent Central Texas, lost service members, military patriotism and finally, each service branch.
