Construction of Montaza Palace, located on the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria, began in 1892 for Egypt's royal family. The complex, now owned by the government of Egypt, started as a royal family escape for hunting and vacations and later was used as a summer residence. In the 1930s, a second bigger palace and the royal gardens were added. Although entrance is not available into the palaces, the beautiful gardens and beach are open to the public.

After our morning ride from Cairo to Alexandria, we met our guide who would take us to the best of the city over two days. Our first stop was at Montaza Palace and Gardens where we had time on our own to explore the beautiful grounds overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
A man of ordinary talent will always be ordinary, whether he travels or not; but a man of superior talent will go to pieces if he remains forever in the same place. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
