Italy | Cinque Terre | Monterosso | Monterosso al Mare | Old Town | Fegina | Coastal Village | Beach | Hiking
Monterosso is the furthest north of the five coastal villages which make up the region of Cinque Terre in Italy. It's the largest of the five villages and the village with the longest stretch of beach. As most would expect, the Old Town has narrow streets with churches plus retail and residential buildings ... and ruins of a castle. Fegina is the more modern area within the city - filled with beaches and more retail.

What is your favorite thing to do when you visit a city for the first time?
I love roaming the streets to try to get my own feel for the city. But, I also like to do research on the most important sites to see - I don't want to miss out on anything!
When we arrived in Monterosso early in the morning, our room was not ready. We started our day by roaming around while carrying our heavy backpacks. In the early afternoon, we were able to get checked in, drop off our luggage and explore some more. That's when we took the time to hike up to some of the higher points in the city!
