For several weeks beginning in late August of 1972, Munich was the home to the Summer Olympics. Still standing today are many of the facilities (including the stadium) where various events of the XX Olympic Summer Games were held. The Olympic Tower raises high above the park and visitors can also see Olympic Hill, made from wreckage left after World War II. Sadly, it was during the Munich Olympics that a Palestinian terrorist group murdered 11 Israeli Olympians and a German police officer.

Social Media Description

After landing in Munich and getting checked in to our hotel, we headed off to Olympia Park to wander the grounds. In just a couple of hours we were able to see the memorial tribute commemorating the 1972 massacre victims, Olympiahalle, Olympiastadion, Olympiaberg, Olympia-Alm (Munich's highest beer garden), the Olympia Walk of Stars and, of course, the Olympiaturm.
