Built by the Venetians in the mid-14th century, Chania's harbor is typically referred to as the Venetian Harbour (or Old Venetian Harbour). A stroll along the harbor comes complete with a view of both the past and present. You'll spot both locals and tourists enjoying harborside drinking and dining at more modern restaurants and cafes. As you peer out across the harbor, it's history that fills your view. The Firkas Fortress and Chania Lighthouse are favorites and two of the most often photographed sights by those who explore Crete.

Where are some of your favorite harbors?
A stroll along the water, whether on a sandy beach, a marina or a harbor, is one of my favorite things to do to get a little exercise. Our port day in Chania, Greece was no exception. The Old Venetian Harbour was great for people watching and for seeing what turned out to be my favorite places in the city. No matter which side of the harbor we were on, there was something unique before our eyes!
Fun fact: One of the reasons that the harbour was originally built was to protect the area from pirates!
