New Year's Eve Beach Ball Drop in Panama City Beach


    

Pier Park, Panama City Beach's entertainment district, is home to two countdowns to the new year. For the youngsters (or anyone not wanting to stay up past midnight), inflated beach balls drop from above the Main Street (which is closed to vehicle trafffic). You may even be lucky enough to take one home! Just four hours later, the lighted beach ball atop Celebration Tower drops slowly as the crowd chants "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year"!

We don't always join in on big New Year's Eve celebrations, but this year we joined in the fun at Pier Park in Panama City Beach.

Fun fact: The pole on which Panama City Beach's beach ball drops is actually ten feet taller than the one in Times Square, New York!
