The Piazza del Nettuno has been a popular meeting point in downtown Bologna for hundreds of years. Nicknamed "the giant", a large statue of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno) with a fountain stands tall in the middle of the square. The statue and square both date back to the mid 1560s. Historic buildings including Palazzo del Podesta and Palazzo Re Enzo are close by in the city's Piazza Maggiore.
