Exploring the Cave at Madeira's Pocas do Gomes


    

You don't need lots of time, but you won't want to skip a stop at Pocas do Gomes on Portugal's island of Madeira. Also called Doca do Cavacas, you'll find a beach plus unforgettable panoramic views. It's not the easiest place to find, but it's worth a part of your day. Walk through the dark (and very short) tunnel while the waves crash into the outer walls around you. You'll find a unique window with a view of the waters and will be glad you came!

On what islands have you rented a car for a day trip when on a cruise?

It's one of our favorite things to do as we prefer exploring on our own (vs. organized tours). We've been on a couple of small group tours in Madeira, so this time we reserved a car for the day. We didn't have a lot of time to explore, so we had to narrow down our list of places to see. (There's always next time, right?)

We loved the views (and sounds) from our first stop, Pocas do Gomes.
