Market, Murals and More near Papeete Port

The largest of any of the cruise ports on the French Polynesian islands, Papeete is found on the "main" island of Tahiti. Just a short walk from the port is Le Marche, the city's municipal market. Cruise ship passengers often head for the market to purchase souvenirs, handcrafted items, food and beautiful fresh flower arrangements to enjoy in their cabins. Walk the promenade, search for hand painted murals, scope out tropical flowers and enjoy dinner at a roulotte (food truck) on the waterfront.

Since this was our second visit to the island of Tahiti, we stayed close to the port area in the morning. (We had to make our way back to the ship late morning to get ready for an afternoon snorkeling excursion!) After listening to the "welcome music", we strolled around the market before walking the nearby streets in search of some fun street art.
