Portugal | Porto | Vila Nova de Gaia | Gaia | Douro River | Dom Luis I Bridge | Pedestrian Bridge | Panoramic View |
Porto's Dom Luís I Bridge is the most famous of the bridges that cross over the River Douro from the historic city. Built of iron, the double-decker bridge was the longest of its kind when originally completed in 1887. The bridge has lanes for both vehicles and pedestrians, and you may even notice light rail trains cross over the river on the bridge. A drive across the bridge gives passengers nice views of the river and historic city, but a walk from one side to the other is even better as you have the time to truly enjoy the views!

After riding across Porto's famous Dom Luis I Bridge, we walked across so that we could spend some more time exploring Gaia!
Fun fact: Many people see similarities between the bridge and the Eiffel Tower. The winner of the design contest for the bridge had previously worked closely with Gustave Eiffel, designer of the famous Paris tower.
