Italy | La Spezia | Portovenere | Promenade | Old Town | Chiesa Di San Lorenzo | Doria Castle | Byron's Grotto | Church of St. Peter

Bookend a Day in Portovenere on the Promenade

One of the first things that nearly everyone notices as they arrive in Portovenere is the harbor (and promenade). Although you may have a list of places in the village that you want to see, go ahead and spend a little time getting your bearings while enjoying the promenade. With your back to the water, Old Town will be in front of you with the Chiesa Di San Lorenzo and Doria Castle towering above. Both Byron's Grotto and the Church of St. Peter will be to your far left.

Which of the harbors or promenades that you've seen have left a lasting impression?

It's easy to see why people often start and end their time in Portovenere by the water. A walk along the promenade is perfect for enjoying the colorful buildings that line the harbor, seeing the church and castle towering above and admiring the reflections in the water.

Fun fact: The "wall" of buildings was originally built to help defend the city during medieval times.

Do you have any favorite promenades?
