A project was started in 1960 to build a new government building at Kom El Dekka in Alexandria, Egypt. It was during the land clearing phase of this project when it was discovered that something was buried underneath the proposed building site. The project was immediately ceased and shortly thereafter the Roman Amphitheatre was discovered by an excavation team. The theatre was originally built in the 4th century AD and thought to have hosted a variety of events from the time that construction was completed through the 7th century AD.

Before heading to our late lunch / early dinner, we had the chance to explore the grounds of the Roman Amphitheatre in Alexandria. It was fun to imagine what sitting in the theatre would have been like to see a performance almost 2000 years ago!
