Tanzania | Arusha | Serengeti National Park | Safari | Game Drive | Maasai Wanderings | Giraffe | Giraffes
When many people think of a safari, they picture a giraffe strolling past an iconic Acacia tree on the African savannah. Giraffes, known as "gentle giants", are the tallest land animals living today. They take advantage of their height - giraffes have access to food that other animals can't reach. Since they tower above the animals with whom they share the land, they can also leverage their height to be on the lookout for predators.

Much like our first day on safari, our last day in Serengeti National Park with Maasai Wanderings was filled with giraffes!
Fun giraffe facts: Giraffes spend almost all of their life (both waking and sleeping hours) standing on all fours. These gentle giants take multiple naps each and every day - most naps are only one or two minutes long. Their total sleep often amounts to only five minutes each day - the least amount of sleep of all animals. Even while napping or sleeping, giraffes keep one eye open!
A man of ordinary talent will always be ordinary, whether he travels or not; but a man of superior talent will go to pieces if he remains forever in the same place. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
