The groundbreaking of today's Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis was in 1907 and the building's
cornerstone was laid in 1908. Although the first mass was celebrated in 1914, completing the
amazing murals inside would take a total of 80 years! In 1997, Pope John Paul II designated the
cathedral as a Cathedral Basilica.

On many occasions, my mother shared advice that she got from her Norwegian father. "Explore the
United States first, then go overseas. There are so many amazing places in your home country that
many people never take the time to see."
During our years of traveling around the world, we have been lucky enough to visit numerous
famous cathedrals. For obvious reasons, we've stayed closer to home during our 2020 and 2021
travels. Just last month we walked into the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis as the first tour in over
a year was beginning. The interior is adorned with amazing mosaics and I can't stop talking about
how beautiful it is. It actually rivals any cathedral we've seen anywhere in the world!
