The largest living Kauri Tree is believed to be in New Zealand's Waipoua Forest. Located in the country's Northland Region (on the North Island), the huge tree is thought to be over 1,000 years old (and may have been living as many as 2,500 years). Getting a close up view of the tall tree requires a short trek on a wooden boardwalk (after sanitizing your shoes). Continue past the tree to a second viewpoint for a more distant view of the canopy.

Any visit to the Waipoua Forest should include a stop at what is believed to be the biggest living Kauri tree. It's easy to find, parking is just across the road and very close by and the hike to the tree is short. It was also interesting to see the precautions put in place to ensure that no diseases are brought near the tree.
Fun fact: The Maori believe that all living things in the forest are "children" of the sacred Tane Mahuta!
