An Unfinished Obelisk has been lying in the same quarry south of Aswan, Egypt for thousands of years. What started as a huge block of Aswan pink granite that was partially carved into an obelisk was left in the quarry due to cracks in the stone. It is thought that the carving of the obelisk was started during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut and later covered in sand until it was discovered in the early 1900s.

The last of the stops included on our Nile River cruise - the Unfinished Obelisk.

Fun fact: Had the Unfinished Obelisk become a Finished Obelisk, it is estimated that it would have measured in at about 135 feet tall and weighed over 2.3 million pounds!

Notable Quote

Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind. - Anthony Bourdain
