Dating back to the 1800s, Bahia Palace translates to "brilliance" in Arabic. The palace had a summer room, winter room and private dining room for the former black slave who became Grand Vizier (Abu Ahmed). In addition to his private rooms, each of his four wives had equal-sized rooms which opened on to the courtyard and gardens. Another twelve bedrooms were devoted to his 24 concubines, each sharing a room with another. His children attended school inside the palace and there was also a mosque open for praying throughout each day.

Of all of the places that we visited during our three days in Marrakech, Bahia Palace has to be one of my favorites. The interior architecture and decor were beautiful, but we loved the surrounding courtyard with fountains and gardens just as much!
Fun fact: It is believed that Bahia Palace was the first building in northern Africa which incorporated stained glass in its decor.
