California | Mineral | Lassen Volcanic National Park | Scenic Byway | Summit Lake | Paradise Meadows | Manzanita Lake | Reflection Lake | Hot Rock
To make the most of a visit to Lassen Volcanic National Park, plan at least two days in order to see the sights along the scenic byway and to hike some of the trails. Closest to the park's northwest entrance are Manzanita Lake and Reflection Lake. Paradise Meadows is a good choice for a longer and semi-difficult hike that goes out to a peaceful meadow (perfect for a picnic) before returning on the same trail. There's a Summit Lake hiking trail, but you can also take a shorter (and mostly flat) hike around the lake's perimeter.

Day 3 was our second and final day to explore Lassen Volcanic National Park. We again headed up the scenic byway toward the northwest entrance making stops at Summit Lake for a short hike and Paradise Meadows for a longer and more difficult hike. We then drove out to Manzanita Lake and Reflection Lake near the park's northwest gate before stopping at Hot Rock and returning to our cabin in Mineral.
