Take a step back in time with a visit to the old port that served industrial Jakarta for hundreds of years. While still in limited operation today, Sunda Kelapa Harbor is one of the country's oldest ports. Located in northern Jakarta, a visit to the historical site provides an opportunity to see schooners used to transport cargo between the islands. It's quite a different feeling than seeing huge container ships that we have grown accustomed to for transporting cargo!

After seeing many of Jakarta's more popular tourist sites, we stepped back in time at the city's old port (before returning to our cruise ship docked at the new port). Loved seeing the rustic schooners at Sunda Kelapa Harbour - hard to believe that there are still sailboats doing business here.
If we ever return, I'd love to take a ride in one of the old boats for a tour of the area - just need to make sure that the boat looks safe and sturdy!
