Austria | Melk | Melk Abbey | Danube River | Wachau Valley | River Cruise | Gate 1 Travel | Monarch Queen | Medieval | History
With vineyards, trees and the Danube River, Melk is the westernmost city in Austria's beautiful Wachau Valley (with the town of Krems sitting at the valley's eastern end). The Melk Abbey, a Benedictine monastery that sits high atop a hill in the town of Melk, is a big reason why many river cruises dock at Melk. Wandering through the historic town is the perfect start or end to any visit to this lower Austrian city to see its unique architecture and peer up at the abbey above.
