When joining a camel trek in Morocco, it's quite common to don a cheich as protection from the desert sands. Similar headscarves are worn by Berber peoples who have the experience to wrap the cotton cloth around their heads and necks (and quickly too!). It is customary for men to cover both their nose and mouth as well - revealing their faces only to close family members.

Sure glad the locals were available to wrap our heads / faces with a cheich before our camel ride in Morocco!
Fun fact: Although today you may see a variety of cheich colors, in days gone bye most were blue. You could estimate the wealth of the cheich wearer by the blue color. It was only the wealthiest who could afford the deepest blue pigment!
