The word "pan" means "all" and "theon" means "gods"; therefore the Pantheon is a temple for all gods.
It is said that the Pantheon was the first temple in Rome that was built for everyone - not just those of a certain class. From its spherical dome, the almost 30 foot in diameter Oculus which is the only "window" and the decorated niches between the columns, the interior is a must see. In the year 609, the Pantheon was converted from a temple to a Catholic Church, the Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs.

A few close-ups of the decor inside the Roman Pantheon. So happy that, after multiple visits, we were finally in Rome on a day when the Patheon was open to visitors!
